One Year of Morrison Music

I truly can’t believe one whole year has flown by since I taught my first lesson under the Morrison Music name. It has been an incredible 12 months filled with new connections, a ton of fun, and A LOT of time spent talking/playing music. What a dream come true!

I started Morrison Music to share the joy and connection that music offers. I know first-hand how music can positively influence your life, and knew our community was hungry for more music education. Even still, I was pleasantly surprised by the support shown by so many people and organizations.

Here are some highlights of Morrison Music’s 2024:

500+ private lessons

Whether they were learning guitar, bass, ukulele, or music theory, being able to share music’s splendour with nearly 40 different students has been a treat. With more than 500 lessons taught this year, and an ever-growing list of students, I’m excited to see so many talented musicians flourish next year.

Try-An-Instrument Day

Our Try-An-Instrument Day in August at the Lindsay Lounge was one of the highlights of the year. We had roughly 70 people come out to get their hands on some guitars/ukuleles/basses/pianos/percussion and I got to meet so many kind and musical people. I hope to host this event a few times in 2025!

Special Music Programs/Workshops

My weekly music program for little ones at New Bloom Farm near Manilla was such a great experience. Seeing the smiles and hearing the many interests (both musical and otherwise!) of that group of kids always energized me.

I also had the privilege of offering a special one-off Rhythm Workshop through BGC Kawarthas’ summer music camp and it was a blast to teach skills in a new, fun way to a group of kids.

I hope to do more of these programs in the future!

Countless live performances

One of the best ways to get out in the community is to perform, and I got to do that in many different groups and venues.

From joining Mike Graham at the Olympia’s jazz nights, to providing live music at the Lindsay Farmers Market, playing in the pit band for the Wizard of Oz, and accompanying the Kawartha Lakes Singers and Kawartha Lakes Concert Band, I met and learned from some talented musicians.

Starter Company PLUS program

Being selected as one of the new businesses for the City of Kawartha Lakes’ Starter Company PLUS spring cohort was a game-changer for me. Through the program, I gained small business skills, and was grateful to receive a grant to purchase studio equipment.

The Starter Company PLUS program is fantastic; if you have a new business, or are thinking of starting one, I strongly encourage you to learn more here.

What’s next for Morrison Music

With so much excitement in 2024, it’s been great to have a few days over the holidays to look ahead to next year and plan for bigger and better things. Here are a few things that are on the horizon:

  • First on my radar is our Introduction to Guitar course. This eight-week group program is designed to get you up and running on guitar, even with no musical experience. Group programs are great because they are more cost-efficient for students than private lessons, and help connect you with other local music lovers. Win-win! Click here for more info/to register.
  • One big area of focus for me is creating more opportunities for kids to get together and make music. I’ve been speaking with some community groups about how we can bring that to life and have made some positive progress. Stay tuned for more in January!
  • Private lessons will remain an important focus for me, and I look forward to building on a successful 2024 for my students with special perks, programs, and performance opportunities.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported me this year by taking lessons, recommending me to a friend/family member, making music with me, and adding your talents and tastes to our musical community. Here’s to a musical 2025!
